Ultrasound (Sonography)

An ultrasound examination is a very safe and non-invasive diagnostic tool used for imaging your pet’s abdominal and chest organs and to evaluate heart function. At Cornerstone Animal Hospital we can evaluate your pet for several abnormalities using ultrasound as follows.

To evaluate if the internal organs like liver, Spleen, Kidneys, Adrenals, Intestines, Stomach, uterus, prostate and other internal organs for any abnormality.
Abdominal or Chest cancer (Neoplasia)
Fluid/blood in the abdomen or chest
Pregnancy test
Uterine infection (pyometra)
Foreign material in the stomach or intestines
Fluid in the abdomen (Ascitis) chest (pleural effusion)
Fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion),
Stones in the urinary bladder or kidney

Many of these problems may be hidden to the naked eye or not detectable on a physical examination. If the Veterinarians at Cornerstone Animal Hospital are not able to identify any complex problems, we seek the help of specialists by appointments.

Echocardiography

This highly specialized diagnostic procedure is to assess the overall functioning of the heart and is performed by analyzing the heart wall thickness, chamber sizes, valve function and pumping actions. At Cornerstone Animal Hospital we conduct an echocardiography of your pet’s heart by appointment only. In many situations, an X-Ray is required prior to ultrasound examination. The Veterinarians at Cornerstone Animal Hospital will also help conduct and review these studies with a specialist and make advanced treatment recommendations when deemed necessary.
